enwor, a regional energy supplier, operates a redundant central control system for monitoring electricity, gas and water for the 300 km² supply area of the cities Herzogenrath (Electricity, Gas, Water), Würselen (E, G, W), Alsdorf (W), Übach-Palenberg (W), Eschweiler (W) and Stolberg (W).
The monitoring system of the relevant plants was realised with telecontrol units of different manufacturers. Renovation of the outdated telecontrol systems was started in 2008.
Connection to the on-site central control system was made using redundant FW-5000 telecontrol interfaces and different transmission media such as switch network, dedicated lines, GPRS and LAN. Most of the new telecontrol systems were supplied already built into wall-mounted and free-standing switchgear cabinets. All the configuration, installation and commissioning work was carried out independently by enwor employees. Some of the water and district heating stations also have a Modbus interface for linking lower-level systems.
Approximately 118 net-line FW-4, FW-5 and FW-50 telecontrol systems are currently in use.
