Erlanger is a multi-utility company and operates a medium-voltage power network, a gas network, a water network and a district heating network, among other things, in and around Erlangen. During a large project for transformer station connection, in 2004 Erlanger chose the net-line FW-40 telecontrol system from a selection of providers.
The decisive factor was in particular the user-friendly configuration tool setIT, with which all the necessary tasks can be easily realised. The selected transformer stations were autonomously connected to the IDS central control station via VFT dedicated lines with protocol IEC 60870-5-101.
Demands on the modular stations increased subsequently, so Modbus links to Janitza network analysis systems, Elster gas volume converters, ABB substation automation and Danfoss regulators, protective device links using IEC 60870-5-103 and PLC applications, among other things, were realised with the codeIT tool.
In 2008, auco-log GSM4 battery-operated stations were used for the first time in the district heating network to transfer data from important ducts to the central control station using IEC 60870-5-101. In 2011, ageing S5 systems were replaced with net-line FW-50 systems (IEC-104) for the remote control of district heating ducts, and since then there has been continuous expansion into district heating transfer.
Net-line FW-50 modular stations are also used in distribution stations and are equipped with DSO command and checkback indication cards for switch actuation. In addition, protective equipment is connected selectively using IEC 60870-5-103 via FO star couplers. Since around 2011, net-line FW-5 systems have also been installed in transformer stations.
Since 2012, plants subject to the German Renewable Energies Act have been connected to net-line FW-5 small-scale stations by means of a net-line FW-50 node station.
Measured value acquisition in transformer stations, cable distribution cabinets and at PV transfer meters is currently being realised by means of Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU and IEC 62058 (IEC 1107) and transmitted to the control centre with IEC 60870-5-104 with various manufacturers as part of a pilot project in the low-voltage network. Furthermore, the communication path is used for network analysis and remote metering.
